(Feb 22, 2010) About a month ago, the producers of the first ever Chicago Fringe Festival (a different festival than ours) contacted us to let us know that they existed. Neither party knew the other existed until recently. They also let us know that their scheduled event was a week after ours in 2010. This led to a discussion on how to best work together to ensure that both events went off smoothly and didn’t confuse audiences, since our names were very similar.
Michelle and I greatly respect the Chicago Fringe Festival (and all Fringes, really) and are very happy that such a thing will finally happen in our town.
So, after a lot of brainstorming and looking at the many local and international opportunities for 2010 that were quickly taking shape for Michelle, the Starlets and our year-old-baby Naked Girls Reading, we decided to reorganize our event and change the concept and the name. We’ve consolidated all of our plans into what *was* to be the main event of the weekend, a mega-show called “Superstars of Burlesque”.
“Superstars of Burlesque” will be a two-night event that will feature performers like Michelle L’amour (Reigning Queen of Burlesque 2005), Angie Pontani (Reigning Queen of Burlesque 2008), Dirty Martini (Reigning Queen of Burlesque 2004), Hot Toddy (Reigning King of Burlesque 2009), Pinchbottom Burlesque (Most Innovative/Burlesque Hall of Fame 2006) and Trixie Little and the Evil Hate Monkey (Best Duo/Burlesque Hall of Fame 2006) and many many more (lineup subject to change). There will be so much hotness under one roof, people will be looking for Mrs. O’Leary’s cow.
This will also allow us to place the full weight of our support behind the burgeoning Chicago Fringe Festival in hopes that it rocks our town like it does in places like New York and Minneapolis. We hope that all of you in Chicago, or those of you who can travel to Chicago, will join us in supporting this event.
So, to recap – the Chicago Burlesque Fringe Festival is no more (at least for this year). The event will now be “Superstars of Burlesque”, August 20 and 21, 2010. For those of you who have applied to the Fringe, we thank you so much and will obviously be returning your application fee promptly.
We are so very proud of the exitement from the community about our crazy little festival idea and can’t wait for the possibility of revisiting it again; when it makes better sense.
Thanks,
Franky Vivid
